WOW! Moments: Honoring Joyce
The Golden Living Taylorsville team recently celebrated the life and accomplishments of our sweet resident Joyce Maki. Having served the community in countless ways and through valiant efforts, our team at Golden Living wanted to honor her and pay tribute to her years of dedication. Joyce is an involved member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (POE), a non-profit dedicated to the education and advancement of women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship. For her WOW! Moment, we hosted her POE sisters for an evening of expressing our gratitude for Joyce.
Joyce has always been a dedicated Presbyterian. When she moved to Utah, she did not have a Perish to attend close by. So, Joyce took the initiative to found a new Perish. She obtained permission from the Presbyterian Church leaders to begin raising money for the purchase of land and to begin construction of the new Perish. After the Perish was finished, Joyce served for many years as the fist female elder and a deacon for the church, taking care of the Perishes’ secular affairs, as well as serving as a president of the Presbyterian women.
As you can tell, Joyce has always been proactive in her community. One of her friends introduced Joyce to P.E.O, where she served for over 40 years as Utah Chapter President, helping women achieve their highest aspirations.
Joyce’s POE sisters and the staff at Golden Living showered her with praise and honor tales. POE honored her with a certificate of accomplishment and together, her sisters and the Golden Living staff, gave her a bouquet to take home to her apartment. Her eyes filled with delight. Joyce shared her thankfulness and how meaningful the night was to her. We couldn’t be happier to have this wonderful woman as a part of Golden Living Taylorsville Senior Living!
